The full-sized Fords were completely restyled for 1961. A concave grille with a narrow horizontal bar rode between quad headlights. The front parking lights were moved into the bumper. A small canted fin, reminiscent of the 1957 Ford topped off the rear fender. Large round tailights lit up the rear. The Galaxie models featured a ribbed aluminum stone guard aft of the rear wheel. The base engine was a 223 cid 101 hp six. Optional V8's included a 292 cid 175 hp V8; a 352 cid rated at 220 hp; a 350 cid V8 rated at 220 hp; a 390 cid engine rated at 300 hp and a 390 cid V8 producing 375 hp. The 1961 Falcon practically remained unchanged from the 1960 model with just minor tweaks to the grille design. Basic engine for the Falcon was the 144 cid 65 hp inline six with an option for a 170 cid 101 hp six.
