The 1962 full-size Fords were restyled and the result was a cleanly designed "slab-sided" car. The grille was a horizontal grid pattern and connected dual headlights. Large round taillights continued to be one of Ford's favorite motifs. The Falcon added a two door sport model Futura featuring bucket seats, and a faux wood trimmed four door station wagon. In 1962, Ford introduced the mid-sized 1962 Fairlane. The primary significance of the 1962 Fairlane was the introduction of Ford's small block V8, a 221 cid 145 hp V8, the parent of the popular 289 and 302 engines.
